📋 Key Responsibilities

As an Entry-Level Network Engineer, you’ll play an integral role in maintaining and enhancing Netcom’s core network infrastructure. Your key duties will include:

• Supporting IP network operations, including infrastructure connectivity and network development

• Participating in the design and deployment of core and client network solutions

• Ensuring the security and performance of all IP-connected devices

• Assisting with network monitoring, incident response, and troubleshooting

• Documenting all network changes and reporting issues as required

• Collaborating with regional IP registries and global IT teams

• Performing other tasks assigned by your line manager

🎓 Required Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this entry-level opportunity, candidates should meet the following criteria:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics, Communications, Computer Engineering, or a related field

• At least 1 year of experience in IP networking or system support

• IP networking certifications are highly preferred (e.g., Cisco, Juniper)

🛠️ Essential Technical Skills

Applicants should have knowledge or hands-on experience with the following:

• LAN/WAN technologies – TCP/IP, routers, configuration, and setup

• Security systems – Cisco, Juniper, Barracuda firewalls

• Network tools – switches, hubs, fiber optics, cabling, packet sniffers

• Routing protocols – EIGRP, OSPF, BGP4, VPNs

• Advanced IP concepts – VLAN, Spanning Tree, Frame Relay, MPLS

• OS & Scripting – Unix/Linux, Shell scripting

• Other technologies – IDS, QoS, VoIP, streaming protocols

• Experience in last-mile access solutions such as DSL, microwave radio, PTP, and fiber is a plus

⭐ Preferred Skills and Experience

• Prior experience working in an ISP or large-scale IP network

• Familiarity with regional IP registries like RIPE, APNIC, or AfriNIC

• Knowledge of structured cabling and VoIP technologies

• Strong communication and documentation skills

• Willingness to provide off-hours support when needed

• Proven ability to work in a team-based, fast-paced environment
