Mentors can be incredibly valuable for personal and professional growth. Formal mentor programs exist through organizations like SCORE for small businesses, student alumni associations, and professional associations in your field. More informal mentors can come from your existing networks – former managers, professors, community leaders and peers with experience you’d like to learn from. Don’t be afraid to directly ask someone you admire if they’d be willing to provide guidance as a mentor. Online mentorship platforms like Guidor, MicroMentor and Maven allow browsing mentor bios to find a fit. Social media is useful for discovering and engaging with potential mentors too. The key is being clear about your goals and what you’re seeking from a mentor relationship.
