To start a backyard vegetable garden, choose a sunny spot with good soil drainage and prepare the soil by loosening it with a garden fork or tiller. Decide which vegetables you want to grow and plan the layout of your garden beds accordingly, leaving enough space between rows for plants to spread out. Plant seeds or seedlings according to the instructions on the seed packets or plant tags, and water the garden regularly to keep the soil moist. Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and suppress weeds, and fertilize as needed to promote healthy growth. Harvest vegetables when they’re ripe and enjoy the fruits of your labor!
