Systemic racism has deep historical roots and persists in contemporary society through institutionalized practices and structural inequalities that disadvantage marginalized racial and ethnic groups. Historical legacies of slavery, colonialism, and segregation have perpetuated racial hierarchies and discriminatory policies that limit opportunities and access to resources for communities of color. Contemporary manifestations of systemic racism include racial profiling, disparities in education, employment, healthcare, criminal justice, and housing, as well as everyday microaggressions and implicit biases. Addressing systemic racism requires acknowledging its historical legacy, dismantling institutional barriers, and promoting racial equity and social justice through policy reforms and collective action.
